Natural hazards may be beyond our control, but there are ways to reduce the risk and the impact of whatever emergency we might face. Emergency Preparedness Week (May 4-10, 2025) encourages people in Canada to take concrete actions to be better prepared to protect themselves and their household during emergencies.
By taking a few simple steps, you can become better prepared to face a range of emergencies – anytime, anywhere. It is important to:
- Know the risks
- Knowing what hazards are most likely to impact our local community can help you better prepare.
- Make a plan
- Planning helps you and your family know what to do in an actual emergency.
- Get an emergency kit
- During an emergency, we may need to get by without power or tap water.
- Be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours with a stock of basic supplies.
In partnership with the County's Emergency Management programme, pick up a 72-hour guidebook from any branch of the Wellington County Library. Stop by between May 4 and 10, while quanties last.
