Emergency Preparedness

Emergency preparedness checklist and emergency supplies

Natural hazards may be beyond our control, but there are ways to reduce the risk and the impact of whatever emergency we might face. Emergency Preparedness Week (May 4-10, 2025) encourages people in Canada to take concrete actions to be better prepared to protect themselves and their household during emergencies.

By taking a few simple steps, you can become better prepared to face a range of emergencies – anytime, anywhere. It is important to:

  1. Know the risks
    1. Knowing what hazards are most likely to impact our local community can help you better prepare.
  2. Make a plan
    1. Planning helps you and your family know what to do in an actual emergency.
  3. Get an emergency kit
    1. During an emergency, we may need to get by without power or tap water.
    2. Be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours with a stock of basic supplies.

In partnership with the County's Emergency Management programme, pick up a 72-hour guidebook from any branch of the Wellington County Library.  Stop by between May 4 and 10, while quanties last.
