National Poetry Month

Word poetry in printer block letters

This month, the League of Canadian Poets invites us to celebrate National Poetry Month with the theme Family. Writing poetry is an amazing way to explore sometimes joyous and sometimes complicated subjects. Need a starting point? Check out some how-to poetry books for kids.

Reading poetry can also be a great way to relax on a spring evening. Poetry and music are deeply connected—both use rhythm, sound, and emotion to tell stories and express feelings. Enjoy poems read aloud to you with a digital audiobook on our Libby app, including content by historical poets like Emily Dickinson, William Blake, and Elizabeth Barret Browning, and more contemporary poets like Rupi Kaur, Zetta Elliot, and Mary Lambert. We also have a great selection of Canadian poetry books for you to take home.
