Welcoming Newcomers

Join us in celebrating Welcoming Week from September 12 to 21. This annual event invites newcomers and long-time residents to enjoy free, inclusive events full of connection and community. Our regional celebrations are organized by the Guelph–Wellington Local Immigration Partnership (GWLIP) and supported by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. Find out more at www.welcomingweek.ca.

You can help new neighbours feel at home in Wellington County by sharing the library with them! We're a friendly place to connect, learn, and belong. At WCL, newcomers can build language skills, meet people, and explore ideas in a safe and supportive environment.

Some of the resources we have at Wellington County Library include:

  • Mango Languages for online language learning, including English as a Second Language in over 20 native languages, and access to an app for learning on the go.
  • ESL Resources including print copies of ESL books, titles for adults learning English or who struggle with reading, and guides to IELTS and TOEFL.
  • Picture books that share stories of diversity, kindness, and making new friends.
  • French language books for kids, including picture books and chapter books.
  • Filter our digital collection by different languages, including international magazines.
  • September Story Times for families with kids 5 years and younger, including programming specifically for babies (0-1years) and toddlers (2-3 years).
  • September Crafting for Adults for social connection and to practice new skills and techniques.

Public computers and free Wi-Fi are available for any visitor. These can be used to stay in touch with loved ones or to search for jobs, housing, local events, services, and more. New residents can also sign up for a free library card if they live in the County. A library card gives access to our online resources and lets you borrow books, movies, and more to enjoy at home.
